Former Inter Milan defender Daniele Adani named French forward Marcus Thuram as the signing of the year in Serie A.

Speaking live on Viva El Futbol, as reported by FCInterNews, Adani discusses various topics, including the opening-day draw against Genoa.

Despite fighting back from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead heading into second-half stoppages, Inter drew 2-2 at the Marassi.

Thuram soaked up the limelight as the player of the match.

The highly-rated center-forward netted on either side of halftime to inspire Inter’s comeback.

Unfortunately, his effort was in vain as Yann Bisseck conceded a late penalty, gifting Genoa a last-gasp draw.

Nonetheless, Thuram looked unstoppable in Liguria.

Inter have become well-versed in signing top players without spending a dime under Beppe Marotta’s leadership.

“We’re always talking about the same old things: Inter became a strong team because when they sign players on a free transfer, the team becomes stronger as the players signed all improve,” Adani said.

“They start ahead and currently Inter don’t have another squad to contend with them in terms of strength: Inter have signed two great players.

“But Inter have become the strongest team: two or three years ago, this was not a foregone conclusion.

“Inter played a game they deserved against Genoa.

“But already two years ago, Napoli aside, you can’t allow yourself to lose 13 matches. They threw away many matches like this past weekend against Genoa and gifting goals in their own penalty area.”

Adani Believes It Is More Difficult To Keep Winning Than Win First Time

Adani urged Inter to keep their feet on the ground.

“To confirm yourself as a winner is even stronger than to affirm yourself,” he maintained.

“But Inter start from a superior place. They have demonstrated this with players who are still out of form like Calhanoglu or Mkhitaryan and Lautaro.”

Thuram, who went from strength to strength last term, continues to deliver. And Aslani sees him as ‘the most important signing.’

“Thuram has really revealed himself to be the most important signing of the last 15 months. He has really turned out to be a winning ticket, not just for Inter but for the damage he causes against the other teams.

No one expected him to be this good.”

Adani recalls Inter’s slump in the Scudetto race two years ago when Inzaghi’s side lost the title to Milan.

“Inter lost the league two years ago, I repeat: they lost the Serie A even though I give merit to Milan who did what they needed to.

“But from that defeat, and the following season with the 13 losses in the league something you cannot allow to happen with this squad, it is not right to not attribute improvement to the technical staff as well as the playing squad.”

Daniele Adani: “Inter Players Have Improved”

Two years ago, Inzaghi’s future at Inter was hanging by a thread.

However, the ex-Lazio manager saved his skin down the final stretch of the 2022/23 campaign.

The rest is history as Adani remembers Inzaghi’s clutch Champions League moments.

“Let’s not forget that the season before last, Inzaghi was very much being questioned between the Round of last 16 and the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

“His trajectory improved there and then,” he stated.

“However, in Italy the last 5 years the winners are Juve, Inter, Milan, Napoli and Inter.

“I repeat that the Inter players now are not the same as they were three years ago, they have worked and improved.”

Adani couldn’t help but bring Thuram back into the discussion.

“Then there is the power that gives you your self-confidence. If you sign Thuram on a free transfer, you win the pot.

“Last summer they lost Dzeko and Lukaku and Thuram arrived.”

He also recognized the importance of hard work.

“If you don’t work well, you don’t have the season they had. Inter had almost the perfect season which was not a given, whilst this year they can only lose.”
