Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is expecting Mehdi Taremi to “have a great match” against Lecce in the absence of Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash.

The most eye-catching selection decision that Inter coach Inzaghi has made for the team’s first Serie A match at home this season comes in attack.

Former Porto striker Taremi makes his first ever start for Inter.

The 32-year-old Iranian international joined Inter on a free transfer during the summer window. And he did already make an appearance as a substitute last weekend against Genoa despite having just recovered from a muscle problem.

But now, Taremi will already be getting the chance to play from the first minute.

This owes in large part to an injury to captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine has not picked up anything too serious. However, he is dealing with some muscular fatigue after rushing back from a late return to training to start against Genoa last weekend.

Therefore, Taremi will be leading the line for Inter alongside Marcus Thuram this evening rather than the captain.

Inzaghi: “Taremi Will Have A Great Match Vs Lecce, Not Risking Lautaro”

Inter are pushing to get three points after a late draw away to Genoa in their first match of the season. Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi said “We did some things well. But we made some errors.”

“There was no happiness at the draw,” the Inter coach continued.

“But I have nothing to say about the effort that my team put in.”

Of Taremi ahead of the Iranian’s first start, Inzaghi said that he is “Doing very well.”

“He had a bit of a setback in preseason. But now he’s doing well and I expect that he’ll have a great match.”

As for Martinez, Inzaghi confirmed that “Lautaro picked up a bit of muscular fatigue on Thursday. So I preferred not to risk him.”
