Inter Milan’s midfield remains the strongest in Serie A despite notable improvements made by Juventus over the summer.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last season, midfield was certainly an area of strength for Inter.

The Nerazzurri could rely on the reliable trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella.

Those three central players offered just the right combination of individual quality and balance as a unit, and of energy and running with technical finesse and tactical awareness.

That was certainly foundational to Inter’s triumph over Juventus and AC Milan in the Serie A title race.

But both the Bianconeri and the Rossoneri have gone to great effort to change things this summer.

The former in particular.

Inter Midfield Remains Strongest In Serie A Despite Juventus Improvements

Juventus have not been shy in the summer transfer window.

The Old Lady have spared no expense in rebuilding their midfield for new coach Thiago Motta.

Manuel Locatelli remains from last season, and will likely play a decent amount having already started both Juventus’s matches so far.

And then players like Nicolo Fagioli and Weston McKennie will hope they can make an impact under the new coach.

But the real story has been the new signings.

Juventus have already completed two massive midfield signings. Khephren Thuram and Douglas Luiz have arrived from Nice and Aston Villa respectively.

And now the Turin giants are on the verge of securing perhaps their biggest midfield coup yet.

Juventus are bringing in Teun Koopmeiners after a drawn-out transfer saga with Atalanta.

Naturally, there is a lot of excitement around the Bianconeri for what these signings can do.

The technical and physical qualities these big name signings possess is not in doubt, and they are working under a coach who masterminded Bologna’s Champions League qualification last season.

However, there are still question marks. Juventus’s new signings must cement their quality and identity.

And in the meantime, Inter remain the team that the Old Lady must catch up with.
