France manager Didier Deschamps is hoping to see further improvement from Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram.

The 27-year-old has established himself as a regular feature for the Nerazzurri. He played an integral part in the club’s triumphant Serie A campaign last term after forming a deadly partnership with Lautaro Martinez.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach star also started the new season on a positive note. He netted a brace in the opening Serie A fixture against Genoa, though it only earned Inter a single point.

Nevertheless, Thuram has yet to truly cement himself as a protagonist for France.

In this summer’s EURO 2024, the Inter star was a regular starter for Les Bleus at the beginning of the tournament.

But after a few underwhelming displays, Deschamps eventually dropped him in favor of Randal Kolo Muani in the later stages.

Therefore, the France coach notes that Thuram has made leaps and bounds since joining Inter last summer. Yet, he invites him to take additional steps forward and become a pillar for the national team as well.

“Marcus has taken a step forward at Inter. now he will have to take more steps,” said Deschamps in his press conference on Thursday via FcInterNews.

“For me, confidence is very important and the players know it.”

The World Cup finalists are preparing to kickstart their UEFA Nations League campaign.

Les Bleus will host Italy at the Parc des Princes in Paris on September 6th before welcoming Belgium to Lyon three days later.

Deschamps has selected Thuram in his squad, but left out his Inter teammate Benjamin Pavard.

The 28-year-old was a regular feature in Deschamps’ lineup for several years, but lost his starting berth to Jules Kounde in the last European Championship, prompting him to consider early international retirement.
