The San Siro Stadium could reportedly miss out on the 2027 Champions League final due to Inter Milan and AC Milan’s potential renovation project.

UEFA granted the iconic ground the hosting rights of the grand finale of Europe’s elite club competition in 2027.

However, some fear that this event could coincide with the renovation works.

In recent months, Milano Mayor Giuseppe Sala launched an attempt to keep Inter and Milan within the city walls.

The two Serie A giants have been working on separate stadium projects in the city’s outskirts, but Sala believes he can persuade them through a plan to renovate the Giuseppe Meazza ground. The ownership of the ground would eventually pass on to the two Serie A clubs.

Construction company WeBuild has recently presented Inter and Milan with a detailed study and is currently awaiting their official responses.

But in the meantime, this potential project could cost San Siro the hosting rights of the 2027 UCL final, explains Tuttosport via FcInterNews.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) wrote to the municipality of Milano to obtain a guarantee that in May 2027 there won’t be any construction work in progress at the stadium.

The municipality’s response will arrive at the end of the week, but it’s unlikely to satisfy the Italian federation.

As the source explains, giving such a guarantee means that the renovation process will be delayed for three years.

The UEFA Executive Committee will render its final decision on the matter on September 24th.

The Turin-based newspaper believes Inter and Milan should give their final decision on whether or not they wish to embark on the project by then.
