Inter Milan sent a clear message to their Serie A rivals with their emphatic 4-0 win over Atalanta yesterday evening.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They interpret the result as the first clear sign that Inter will not loosen their grip at the top.

Inter got their season off to a bit of a stuttering start.

The Nerazzurri drew away to Genoa in their first match of the campaign in mid-September.

Last weekend, Inter produced a fairly convincing response. They beat Lecce 2-0 in their first home match of the season.

But in truth, that win was more businesslike than emphatic.

Inter did not exactly answer the question of whether they can perform at the levels they did throughout last season.

And that question is particularly pertinent considering the status of Inter’s rivals.

Juventus have gotten the season off to a blistering start. The Bianconeri have won both their opening matches.

And with a raft of big money signings, there is a sense that Juventus are capable of pushing Inter harder than they did last season.

Similarly, AC Milan and Napoli also spent big in the transfer market this summer. Even if they have not yet shown the results of that on the pitch, they have plenty of time to click.

Inter Send A Message To Serie A With Atalanta Rout

Another of Inter’s potential rivals for the Serie A title would be Atalanta.

Last season’s Europa League champions also had a summer of ins and outs in the transfer market.

But a strong core of players and identifiable playing style remains at the Gewiss Arena.

Based on yesterday’s evidence, however, there remains a clear gap between Inter and Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri beat La Dea by the same scoreline as their last meeting – 4-0.

Inter made it clear that they can produce the kinds of performances and results that they did last season.

There will be teams looking to catch up and dethrone Inter. But the reigning champions have made it clear – that is not going to be easy.
