Inter Milan’s midfield and defense have all received high marks for their performances in yesterday’s 4-0 Serie A win over Atalanta.

The player ratings in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, did not go below 7/10 in the scores for any of Inter’s defensive or central trio.

Inter are heading into the international break with all the momentum.

The Nerazzurri have not just won the hardest match on paper of their first three of the season. They have done so by an eye-watering 4-0 scoreline.

Naturally, there were strong performances throughout the Inter team.

The Nerazzurri were fluid in possession, clinical in the final third, and intense out of possession.

And just as important as the four goals that Inter scored was their second clean sheet of the season.

Naturally, striker Marcus Thuram received special praise. The Frenchman scored a brace, in addition to forcing the early Berat Djimsiti own goal that set the tone.

But it was far from a one-man show from the Frenchman.

On the contrary, Inter looked at their fluid, intense best for much of the ninety minutes.

And that required not just a perfect set-up from coach Simone Inzaghi, but also assured performances from all of the starting eleven.

In defense, all of Inter’s back three receive scores of 7/10 from the Corriere.

Defender Francesco Acerbi handled Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui very well, rarely letting the Italian international get on the ball or show his goal threat.

Meanwhile, wide centre-backs Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni used their pace and positional sense well to form a barrier against a fairly positionally fluid Atalanta attack.

Moreover, all of Inter’s back three got forward to support the attack dangerously.

Then, in midfield, the Corriere give Nicolo Barella a score of 7.5/10.

The 27-year-old scored a stunning goal for Inter’s second inside ten minutes. But his performance as a whole was much more than that goal, a combination of energy and polish.

The same was true of Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Both receive grades of 7/10 from the Corriere for their displays.
