Inter Milan are hoping to finalize the contract extension of Denzel Dumfries sooner rather than later, and they expect an imminent answer from the player.

The Netherlands international is currently running on an expiring contract. Many sources in Italy and England were expecting him to leave the club in the summer. After all, the Nerauzzurri wouldn’t want to risk losing his services for free in 2025.

The wingback emerged as a candidate to join either Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the situation drastically changed over the past few months.

Inter were able to find a breakthrough in their negotiations with the player’s agents.

The two parties have an agreement in principle over a new contract which will raise the player’s wages from 2.5 million euros per year to 5 million.

However, the signatures have yet to arrive.

So according to Sportitalia via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri management has asked Dumfries to provide them with a definitive answer upon his return from the current international break.

Hence, if the Dutchman is happy with the terms put on the table, the club would like to finalize the process and pen a new deal.

Denzel Dumfries Must Give Inter Milan Definitive Answer On Contract Extension After The International Break

Dumfries has been a stalwart at Appiano Gentile since making the move from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021. He arrived as a direct replacement for Achraf Hakimi who joined PSG at the time.

The 28-year-old had his ups and downs but he’s been a regular starter for Simone Inzaghi over the past three seasons.

The Dutchman is now working on regaining his optimal physical condition and winning back his starting berth on the right flank at Matteo Darmian’s expense.
