Inter Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu hasn’t been able to train alongside his international teammates ahead of Turkiye’s upcoming clash.

Wales will host Vincenzo Montella’s men in Cardiff on Friday night in the opening round of the UEFA Nations League.

But according to FcInterNews, the former AC Milan star will likely have to skip the encounter due to a physical issue.

As the source explains, Calhanoglu has been feeling pain in the hip since the second half of Inter’s encounter against Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri rooted their Lombardian neighbors by four unanswered goals.

As usual, the Turkish star was in Simone Inzaghi’s starting lineup. But he made way for Kristjan Asllani at the hour mark due to this physical discomfort.

Nevertheless, Montella still opted to call up the Turkiye captain.

But as the report explains, the 30-year-old has been training separately for the last three days. Therefore, he’s unlikely to recover in time for the Nations League contest against Wales.

The Turkish national team will then host Iceland on home soil three days later. So Montella will be hoping to have Calhanoglu at his disposal at least for the second matchday.

Calhanoglu also received a nomination for the Ballon d’Or on Wednesday night. He landed on the 30-man shortlist alongside his club captain Lautaro Martinez.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man started his career as an attacking midfielder.

However, he slowly morphed into a deep-lying playmaker under Simone Inzaghi’s guidance, and has been excelling at his new role.
