Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi could hand Josep Martinez his club debut in the club’s first encounter after the international break.

The 26-year-old is a Barcelona youth product who also had spells at Las Palmas and RB Leipzig.

He spent the two previous campaigns at Genoa, and his impressive displays earned him a move to the Nerazzurri.

The Spaniard has arrived at the club as a replacement for Emil Audero who was Yann Sommer’s understudy last season.

But while the Italian only managed to make six appearances throughout the season, Martinez could have a much more prominent role.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, Inzaghi was instrumental in hand-picking the Spaniard as Inter’s new goalkeeper in the summer.

The former Genoa man won’t be a mere backup for Sommer. The club expects him to inherit the starting gloves at some point in the future. After all, the Switzerland international will turn 36 in December.

Inter Milan Goalkeeper Josep Martinez Could Make His Club Debut Vs Monza

Moreover, the Roman newspaper believes Martinez is already in the running for a starting berth against Monza.

This will be the club’s first outing after the international break. Inzaghi is planning to ring the changes for the trip to Brianza, and it could include the custodian’s role.

Moreover, this would grant Sommer some rest ahead of what will be an action-packed week.

The Nerazzurri will begin their Champions League campaign with a top showdown against Manchester City before locking horns with AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.
