Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu admits that he “received offers” in the summer after transfer links with Bayern Munich.
Speaking after Turkey’s 3-1 win over Iceland in the Nations League yesterday, via FCInterNews, the 30-year-old then said that he was “clear” about what he wanted.
Over the summer, Calhanoglu’s future at Inter came into some doubt.
The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is certainly not a player the Nerazzurri would want to sell.
Calhanoglu has grown into an absolutely key player at the heart of Inter’s midfield.
And for his part, it is certainly not as though Calhanoglu would have had any reason to force an exit. He has made it abundantly clear that he is happy to be at Inter.
However, German giants Bayern Munich reportedly were very keen on signing the Turk.
The Bavarians had identified Calhanoglu as a potential player to rebuild their midfield around after going without a trophy last season.
Inter Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu Admits: “I Received Offers” After Bayern Saga
Reportedly, Bayern offered Calhanoglu a four-year contract. This would have included higher wages than the 30-year-old earns at Inter.
Moreover, the German giants reportedly were considering an offer to Inter in the region of €70 million.
With figures that high being floated around, it is understandable that there was a nervous few days as far as Calhanoglu’s future.
But then, the player himself decisively rebuffed the rumours. He made a clear statement indicating that he would not leave Inter.
And for their part, Bayern chose to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham as their big midfield signing rather than Calhanoglu.
Calhanoglu admitted that “I received offers in recent months.”
“But I always said that I’d stay at Inter. And Inter, in any event, would not let me leave.”
“So I said that It’s not something in my power,” Calhanoglu continued. “I’ll try to play at the highest level.”
