Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani feels that he plays the “Brozovic role” for his club, but is more attacking for Albania.

The 22-year-old spoke about his position in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews.

Midfielder Asllani is currently in his third season at Inter.

The Albanian made the move to the Nerazzurri from Empoli in the summer of 2022.

When Inter signed Asllani, they did so with the intention of making him the understudy and backup to Marcelo Brozovic in their midfield trio.

Brozovic had become a pivotal player in deep midfield for Inter. The Croat had initially had an attacking role, but really found his form orchestrating in a holding role.

And Asllani had been on a similar trajectory when he joined Inter.

The Albanian had played as a more attacking central midfielder for Empoli, at first. But he had moved into the holding role, where he shone.

Kristjan Asllani: “I Play Brozovic Role For Inter, Closer To Goal For Albania”

In the end, it was Hakan Calhanoglu who became not just a backup Brozovic – but effectively replaced the Croatian international.

That has meant that Asllani has become a backup to Calhanoglu rather than Brozovic.

The Albanian has had the chance to learn under both players. Both have made similar positional transitions.

However, Asllani still has the capacity to play in a more attacking position.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi seems determined to develop Asllani in the holding role. But for his national team, he can still show off in a more attacking role.

Asllani noted that “Marcelo Brozovic played at Inter, and then I played in his role.”

“When I’m [with the national team] I have more freedom,” he went on.

The 22-year-old noted that “When I play closer to goal, it’s easier for me.”

“But I haven’t scored many goals,” Asllani added.
