Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feel that this Inter Milan team look “like a battleship” with their core intact.

Over the summer, many of Italy’s biggest teams made big changes in the transfer market.

One side who did not do so, however, was Inter.

Rather, the Nerazzurri’s priority was keeping last season’s team together.

Last time around, Inter did not just win the Serie A title. They did so in dominant fashion.

That was a testament to the fact that Inter have a team that is functioning very well.

All over the pitch, the Nerazzurri have players who are ideally suited to coach Simone Inzaghi’s tactical ideas.

Beppe Bergomi: “This Inter Core Are Like A Battleship”

Considering last season, it was not a surprise then to see that Inter prioritized keeping their squad intact.

And the Nerazzurri were successful in their efforts.

It’s not as though there were no departures. A few players did leave.

And Inter did make a total of four signings. Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski arrived on free transfer to bolster squad depth, whilst Inter also signed Josep Martinez and Tomas Palacios as prospects for the future.

But Inter managed to avoid losing any big names.

In past summers, there have typically been notable departures.

Inter have had to cope with the losses of players like Achraf Hakimi, Romelu Lukaku, Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic, Andre Onana, and Milan Skriniar.

Not this time around, however.

Inter managed to hold onto all of the players who started regularly last season.

Former Nerazzurri captain Bergomi remarked that “This Inter team look like a battleship.”

“The other teams have done a lot in the transfer window to strengthen themselves,” he continued.

“But Inter did well to maintain their core. All their best players stayed.”

“However, we’ve seen in recent seasons that the team defending the title always struggles the next season. Look at Milan, Napoli.”

“So Inter will have to be very careful,” Bergomi argued.
