Simone Inzaghi feels that Inter Milan reacted well in their 1-1 Serie A draw with Monza, and says it’s “just cramp” for wingback Federico Dimarco.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews.
Inter came back from the international break with a stumble.
The Nerazzurri travelled to Monza, where they were hoping to make it three wins in a row in Serie A after convincing wins over Lecce and Atalanta before the break.
However, Inter had to settle for a point.
It was a fairly drab performance from the Nerazzurri. They had the lion’s share of possession, but were unable to create much with it.
Then, the Brianzoli took a surprise lead in the second half. This came courtesy of substitute Dany Mota.
Suddenly, the prospect of the first loss of the season just four matches into the campaign seemed very real for Inter.
In the end, the Nerazzurri did find the reaction that they needed to. At least to an extend.
Wingback Denzel Dumfries, a second half substitute, popped up in the box after some good approach play by Joaquin Correa and Carlos Augusto.
However, neither Inter nor Monza were able to find a late winner after that.
Inzaghi: “Good Reaction Inter Vs Monza, Just Cramp For Dimarco”
After this evening’s match, Inzaghi said that “The team got the match off to a good start.”
“In the first twenty minutes we created a lot,” he continued.
“We had to do better at unlocking it.”
“Last season it was a similar match. But we unlocked it immediately.”
Inzaghi admitted that “After the first twenty minutes we were slow and lacked quality in the final ball.”
“When we had to shoot we lacked some clarity.”
The Inter coach noted that “Monza defended deep and played a great match.”
“In the second half we were too slow,” Inzaghi continued. “Then when we had three forwards on the pitch, we conceded a great goal.”
“We should have done better,” the Nerazzurri coach admitted. “But Dany Mota scored a great goal.”
“I’ll take the reaction we showed from this,” Inzaghi continued. “We did well to equalize, and Frattesi came close to scoring at the end.”
“We’re disappointed, but we move on.”
Of midfielders Davide Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani, who both started for the Nerazzurri, Inzaghi said that “They did well.”
“The team did what they had to do,” the Inter coach continued.
“We wanted to win. But credit to Monza for playing a great match, they closed very well.”
Meanwhile, Inzaghi spoke about the performance of Piotr Zielinski. The former Napoli midfielder made his first ever Serie A start for Inter.
“He’s a quality mezzala,” said the Inter coach of Zielinski. “Then, when we had three forwards on the pitch, he dropped to play in midfield with Frattesi.”
“He came back well from international duty,” Inzaghi continued.
And as far as whether Zielinski could play in midfield for Inter going forward, Inzaghi said “I would prefer him in a mezzala role. We already have Calhanoglu and Asllani for that position.”
And Inzaghi also spoke about the condition of wingback Federico Dimarco. The Italian international was noticeably struggling physically towards the end of this evening’s match.
“It was just fatigue for him,” said the Inter coach. “But I’d already used up all my changes.”
Inzaghi then said that for Dimarco, “It was just cramp. No problems.”
