Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto has won praise for his performance in yesterday’s Serie A draw with his old side Monza.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, name the Brazilian as the Nerazzurri’s outstanding player in the 1-1 draw.
Augusto got the nod on the left of Inter’s defense in yesterday’s Serie A clash away to Monza.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to give Alessandro Bastoni a rest, as he looked to rotate his squad in view of big upcoming matches against Manchester City and AC Milan.
Therefore, the coach turned to the versatile Augusto in place of the Italian international.
The 25-year-old is capable of playing either at wingback or on the left of defense.
And yesterday against his former team Monza, Augusto played in the Inter backline.
Carlos Augusto Praised For Display In Monza Vs Inter Draw
Augusto played in defense, whilst it was Federico Dimarco who played on the left flank for Inter.
In the view of Tuttosport, the chemistry between the two, along with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, was one of the outstanding features for Inter on what was mostly a drab night in terms of their possession play.
Augusto’s positioning was very complementary to that of Dimarco.
The Brazilian got forward at times, either in wide or central areas, to support the attack.
However, Augusto also provided support defensively in his role as well.
The 25-year-old’s positioning was always correct, and he made some important interventions in his own penalty area. Augusto showed the necessary pace and physicality to keep Monza’s forward quiet.
In the latter stages, Augusto switched to playing at wingback.
The Brazilian changed positions with Dimarco, who was showing signs of fatigue and could not cover the whole flank.
And Augusto showed that he still has real prowess playing at wingback.
The Brazilian made the assist for fellow wingback Denzel Dumfries’s equalizer late on.
