Legendary former defender Fabio Cannavaro feels that Inter Milan are favourites for the Serie A title, but that Juventus and Napoli could make their mark.

The iconic 2006 World Cup winner spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in the SportWeek insert in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

This weekend will see a couple of direct clashes between big names in Serie A.

The marquee match of the round is surely the Milan derby. Inter and AC Milan face off tomorrow evening.

The derby is always a showpiece occasion for Italian football, regardless of the form that the two city rivals are in going into the match.

But in terms of the top places in the table, this evening’s match between Juventus and Napoli promises to be no less significant.

The Bianconeri and the Partenopei have both been in strong form at the start of the season.

In both cases, it was a summer of big changes. From the coach to the squad, both Juventus and Napoli shook things up.

And early signs are that, while both have a lot of improving to do, they have a lot of quality.

Cannavaro: “Inter Favourites In Serie A, But Will Be Watching Juventus Vs Napoli”

This evening’s match between Juventus and Napoli will be a big test for both teams’ big match credentials.

And one of the teams with the strongest interest in the outcome will certainly be the reigning Serie A champions Inter.

Legendary former Italy defender Cannavaro said that Simone Inzaghi “will be watching, obviously.”

“They’re the favourites, obviously,” the former defender said of Inter.

“They still look to be far stronger than the rest of the teams in the league,” he went on.

“And not just because they’re the reigning champions of Italy.”

“But they certainly aren’t going to be ignoring any details,” Cannavaro said of the Nerazzurri and coach Inzaghi. “For example, seeing who the biggest threat to them is.”
