Simone Inzaghi has stressed to the Inter Milan squad the need to get back to what worked against Man City in the Champions League.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Nerazzurri coach has also emphasized starting matches brightly.
Inter’s last two matches have been something of a study in contrasts.
In the team’s Champions League opener away to Manchester City, the Nerazzurri earned a hard-fought point.
That was the result of both physical intensity and diligent defensive organization.
But any momentum that that European result had generated came to a screeching halt over the weekend.
Inter floundered to a 1-2 defeat against city rivals AC Milan in the derby. If anything, the result did not reflect the Rossoneri’s physical and tactical superiority.
Inzaghi Tells Inter Squad To “Get Back To What Worked Vs Man City”
Clearly, Inter’s coach will want to see his team play like the team that drew against City rather than the one that capitulated against Milan moving forward.
And to that end, Inzaghi has tailored his message to his players in training around replicating what worked in Manchester.
Defensive organization – and in particular not allowing space between the lines – is a crucial theme. That is what Inzaghi wants to work on, having worked against City but fallen apart against Milan.
Then, the Corriere report, Inzaghi has also emphasized getting off to the right start in matches.
In both the first and second halves of the derby, Inter looked shellshocked by Milan.
Inzaghi wants to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Against City, by contrast, Inter dug in and went toe-to-toe right from the first whistle. They never let the Premier League side’s pressure get to them.
Inzaghi wants that to be the way Inter start matches moving forward.
