Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi waxed lyrical about Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi after a scintillating Champions League win.
During his post-game interview with Sky Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, Inzaghi praised his goalscorers in a 4-0 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade.
Taremi made his second consecutive European start for Inter after helping the team hold Manchester City to a 0-0 draw on matchday one.
However, his performance tonight differed a lot. The Iran international delivered a match-winning showing as he grabbed his first competitive goal in the Nerazzurri colors.
Before finding his Inter breakthrough from a late spot-kick, Taremi set the reigning Scudetto holders up for the win.
He made a crucial still high up the pitch to tie up Arnautovic for Inter’s second. Shortly afterward, he pickpocketed Uros Spajic to set Lautaro Martinez on a silver platter.
Arnautovic scored in his first start for Inter this season. But from that distance, it was a routine finish after Taremi did the heavy lifting.
Inter Milan Boss Simone Inzaghi Speaks Highly of Mehdi Taremi & Marko Arnautovic After Remarkable Champions League Night
“They are giving it their all. I have to make choices from game to game for the good of Inter,” Inzaghi said about his deadly duo. “They deserved the opportunity, and they took advantage of it.
“However, I look at all the players, for a coach to have these answers is comforting.”
Asked how many goals backup strikers have to score to climb in the pecking order, Inzaghi delivered a diplomatic answer.
“They are fundamental. I can’t say a precise number, but they have to make sure they help us a lot.
“The two strikers who are playing the most are Thuram and Lautaro, but the season is long.
“Lautaro, Arna, and Taremi had some problems, but they are players that I wanted here and that the club gladly brought to me.
“I am satisfied with how they work in Appiano and they must continue in this way.”
Inzaghi couldn’t have dodged the question about the ultras scandal.
“I already answered yesterday. Marotta spoke about it in the pre-match,” he was short.
“We listened little and worked a lot because we had to prepare for the game in just two days. We focused because we were facing a team that had won 8 and drawn in the league. But everyone was very good.”
Meanwhile, the Inter boss received praise for his tactical brilliance.
“Thank you, we know that a coach has to make choices; sometimes it’s the result that proves you right or not.
“I must not be conditioned by what they say; I saw a team that would have played a game of this type, and so I chose players based on this, such as Zielinski, who could be useful to us with the dribble.”
