Striker Marko Arnautovic “began life anew” at Inter Milan with his performance against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Striker Arnautovic was something of a surprise inclusion in Inter’s starting eleven against Red Star on Tuesday.

The Austrian international had yet to make a start for the Nerazzurri prior to this week.

It seemed clear that Arnautovic is far down the pecking order in attack.

However, that does not mean that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi does not still trust the 35-year-old. The coach handed Arnautovic the chance to lead the line against Red Star in the Champions League.

And Arnautovic grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Arnautovic got his first goal of the season against Red Star.

The Austrian’s strike was important as it gave Inter some breathing room in the second half, putting the team 2-0 up.

This was Arnautovic’s first goal at the San Siro since he found the back of the net against Atletico Madrid in February.

But the goal was nothing more than a reward for an excellent performance from Arnautovic.

The former West Ham United and Stoke City worked and sacrificed for the team.

The San Siro crowd appreciated Arnautovic’s workrate greatly. There was a roar of approval in particular for one sixty-metre run from the veteran striker.

Arnautovic’s display was that of a player who understands that he has to give everything for the team when he is on the pitch.

The 35-year-old showed that he can still make his contribution. Inter can rely on performances of a certain standard, and Inzaghi can rotate his team in attack with a certain peace of mind.

Now, Arnautovic will feel that he can build on this for a strong second season back at Inter.
