Inter Milan are putting Napoli in their sights as the race for the Serie A title really starts to take shape.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

This weekend in Serie A, there was movement at the top of the table.

That was the result of both Juventus and AC Milan dropping points.

The Bianconeri had to settle for a point against Cagliari after conceding a late penalty.

And then the Rossoneri lost to Fiorentina in the marquee match for the round, with the Tuscan side prevailing 2-1 in a thriller which saw three penalties saved.

On the other hand, Napoli secured a relatively businesslike 3-1 win over Como.

And Inter took three points against Torino, winning 3-2 in the end after the Granata had a player sent off.

All of this means that Napoli sit top of the Serie A table, with sixteen points. Inter are two points behind them with fourteen, and then Juventus along with Lazio and surprise package Empoli one more point back.

Meanwhile, Milan are stuck on eleven points after their setback against Fiorentina.

Inter Put Napoli In Their Sights In Serie A Title Race

Of course, it would be far too early to rule Juventus or Milan out of the title race.

Then there is the fact that Lazio, at the moment, are keeping pace at the top.

And even Atalanta or Roma could always climb the table.

But as things stand, Inter and Napoli are the two teams at the top of the pile.

That means that based on the early pace, the Nerazzurri will see Napoli as the team that they must chase.

The Nerazzurri will in fact meet the Partenopei directly next month. On November, they will host the current league leaders in Serie A.

The fact that that match comes just days after a Champions League clash with Arsenal will make it all the trickier.

And that underscores a key difference between Inter and Napoli this season. The latter have no European football to distract them, something they’ve already benefited from.

But Inter know this. And over the coming weeks, they will be thinking about how they can keep pace and overtake the league leaders.
