Simone Inzaghi will make cutting out defensive errors the main focus of work during the international break for Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter coach Inzaghi will have his squad at his disposal for a couple of weeks in training.

Not the entire team by any means. A number of Inter’s players will be away on international duty during the break.

However, the Nerazzurri coach will still have the chance to work with a number of players. Particularly in defense.

All of Francesco Acerbi, Yann Bisseck, Benjamin Pavard, Yann Sommer, Tomas Palacios, Matteo Darmian, and Carlos Augusto will be in training with Inzaghi.

This gives the Inter coach plenty of opportunities to work on tightening up the defense.

And that is exactly what Inzaghi plans to do.

Inzaghi To Focus On Eliminating Inter Milan Defensive Errors During Break

As the Corriere notes, Inter have actually conceded the same number of shots after seven Serie A matches as in the same period last season.

They have allowed 71 shots in total.

But last time around, just eighteen of those shots had been on target. This season, it has jumped to thirty.

Meanwhile, the “expected goals” statistic also paints a clear picture.

At this stage last season Inter had allowed 4.83 xG. But this campaign, that number has risen to 8.06.

What all this means is that while Inter are not necessarily allowing their opposition to attack more, when their opponents do get chances they tend to be much better ones.

A lot of this comes down to simple errors.

In many of their matches in Serie A this season, Inter have defended well for long spells. Then this has been undone by defensive errors that allow a relatively straightforward scoring chance.

These errors have been both individual and collective.

Inter coach Inzaghi is well aware that these errors cannot persist if his team are to retain their Serie A title.

Therefore, the coach is making them the main focus in training during the international break.
