Davide Frattesi is set to start in midfield for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match away to Roma.

This is the prediction of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They anticipate that the 25-year-old will get the nod ahead of Nicolo Barella.

There is one major selection decision above all others that appears to be on Inter coach SImone Inzaghi’s mind.

That concerns the midfield.

There appears to be no doubt that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu will take up their usual starting positions in the Nerazzurri midfield.

But then there are two players vying for one remaining spot. Both of them Italian internationals.

With both Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani on the sidelines, it is between Davide Frattesi and Nicolo Barella to start for Inter this evening at the Stadio Olimpico.

In the case of Barella, the former Cagliari man is just coming back from injury.

Barella has been out for around a month. He suffered a thigh strain in the derby against AC Milan last month.

Therefore, Frattesi started Inter’s last couple of matches in Serie A before the international break.

The former Sassuolo midfielder started 3-2 wins against the likes of Udinese and Torino.

Barella is now back to full fitness. He took the international break as an opportunity to recover from his injury and work his way back to fitness.

Therefore, Barella is certainly available this evening. The Italian international could start for Inter against Roma, and at the very least will certainly make an appearance off the bench.

But according to Il Messaggerio, it is Frattesi who will keep his place.

Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi will give the 25-year-old the nod, in recognition of his performances before the international break as well as his good form with Italy during the break.
