Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly plotting a winter move for highly-rated Spezia youngster Nicolo Bertola.

According to Il Secolo XIX, as reported by FCInter1908, the reigning Scudetto holders have devised a new strategy to sign the Italy U-21 international.

It’s no secret Inter Milan are eager to revamp their defensive options at the end of the season.

One between Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij will depart Giuseppe Meazza next summer.

Both aging stars have contracts expiring in less than 12 months.

However, Simone Inzaghi’s men have yet to make a choice.

In the meantime, they’re scouring the market for potential long-term replacements.

Tomas Palacios’ arrival from Argentina in the summer is future-oriented but seemingly insufficient.

By the looks of things, Yann Bissek has the potential to become a permanent first-team fixture next season.

Yet, with Inzaghi deploying a three-man backline, another dependable center-back option is still necessary to ensure depth and stability.

That’s where Nicolo Bertola comes in.

Inter Milan Considering Winter Swoop For Spezia Talent Nicolo Bertola

Bertola’s contract at Spezia runs out in June 2025.

Inter’s initial plan was to capture his signature on a Bosman deal.

However, the Nerazzurri are now considering a more proactive approach.

Indeed, the Italian champions are ready to launch a bid for the 21-year-old in the January transfer window.

Bertola has a €4.5 million release clause in his agreement with Spezia.

On the other hand, Inter aim to sign him in a cut-price deal this winter and let him stay at Stadio Alberto Picco on loan until the summer.

The player has already approved a move to Giuseppe Meazza.

Therefore, his entourage is working on a deal that could facilitate his arrival this winter.

Spezia have set a deadline for Bertola to respond to the club’s extension proposal.

It’s a one-time offer that expires on October 31.

With Bertola keen to join Inter, he’ll likely let Spezia’s deadline pass.
