Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is searching for his first goal at the San Siro in Serie A eight months against Juventus this evening.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttposport, via FCInterNews.

Martinez has managed to put his early-season goal drought behind him, seemingly.

The Nerazzurri captain had struggled at the start of the campaign. This was quite evidently the result of a certain lack of fitness following a hectic summer in which he barely got a preseason in.

Martinez has now scored three goals in Serie A. He got a decisive brace against Udinese in a 3-2 win to open his account. And then last weekend the Argentine scored the winner against Roma.

But there is one thing that Martinez is still lacking in the league.

Scoring at the San Siro always means something different for Inter players.

And Nerazzurri captain Martinez has already managed to do just that this season. He got on the scoresheet against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

But the Argentine has scored all of his league goals away from home so far.

Moreover, that goal drought in the league at home stretched back well into last season.

Martinez scored against Frosinone in a 5-0 drubbing – but that was in Lazio.

Prior to that, Martinez’s most recent goal at the San Siro had come in a 4-0 win over Atalanta. That was at the San Siro – and it was all the way back in February.

Therefore, the wait for the Inter captain to score in Serie A in front of his home fans has been quite a long one.

But it would certainly be worth it if the 27-year-old can score this evening.

The Derby d’Italia against Juventus is always a massive fixture. And as is so often the case, this evening’s edition of the fixture has the feel of a potential title-decider.

It certainly will not be easy for Martinez, however.

The Bianconeri have been the Inter captain’s toughest opponent to date. Both on a team and an individual level, he has struggled against them in Serie A.
