Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni feels that Antonio Conte is the best coach in Serie A, and better than Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi.
Speaking on RAI Radio 24, via FCInter1908, Zazzaroni made the bold claim favouring the Napoli coach.
In recent years, Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi have been the subject of frequent comparisons.
Perhaps this is inevitable since it was Inzaghi who became Inter coach after Conte left the club.
And at first, it was tough for Inzaghi to step out of Conte’s shadow. Like his predecessor, the former Lazio coach plays with a 3-5-2 formation.
And while Inter did have plenty of success in Inzaghi’s first couple seasons in charge, there were criticisms that they did not quite have the winning edge that they did while Conte was at the club.
The Nerazzurri’s run to the Champions League final started to change perceptions. That is a competition in which Conte has never found much success.
Then, last season, Inzaghi finally won the Serie A title. Moreover, he did so in even more emphatic fashion than Conte had during the 2020-21 season.
Therefore, it would not be too controversial to say that Inzaghi has left a bigger mark as Inter coach than Conte did, for as successful as the latter’s spell in charge was.
Zazzaroni: “Antonio Conte Still Better Than Simone Inzaghi”
But Conte has had a much longer career than just his two-year spell at Inter.
The 55-year-old has won league titles with the likes of Juventus and Chelsea. He also impressed in his time as Italy coach, guiding the Azzurri to the quarterfinals of EURO 2016.
And Conte is now in charge at Napoli.
At the moment, the Partenopei are top of the Serie A table. They sit four points ahead of champions Inter, and the two teams look set for a long and brutal title race.
Therefore, Conte has started to reassert after Inzaghi took a lot of the limelight away from him in Italian football.
And for his part, Italian journalist Zazzaroni has no doubts. “Conte is the best coach in Italy at the moment,” he declared.
“Even more than Inzaghi,” Zazzaroni argued. “He’s a great coach and I’m a big fan of him, but Conte is better.”
