Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is expecting a decision from Inter Milan and AC Milan on the San Siro “in the next few days.”

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, the Milan Mayor also gave his thoughts on what it will take to get moving on a prospective stadium project adjacent to the existing stadium.

At the moment, Inter and Milan are considering the possibility of building a new stadium adjacent to the San Siro.

This is only the latest prospective project that the clubs have been considering.

For years, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had worked to try and secure approval to tear down the San Siro and then build a new, more modern stadium in its place.

After this proved impossible, the clubs went their separate ways. Inter had considered the feasibility of building in the commune of Rozzano, while AC Milan went as far as to purchase land in the San Donato area.

Milan Mayor Sala had then attempted to convince the clubs to stay at the San Siro.

The Mayor did this by proposing renovations to the iconic stadium that could allow it to become more of a cash cow.

But the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri rejected this idea.

Milan Mayor Sala Expects Inter & AC Milan Response On San Siro In “Next Few Days”

The latest idea to emerge in the long stadium saga in Milan has been that Inter and Milan could build an entirely new stadium right next to the San Siro.

The clubs cannot secure approval to tear down the stadium.

But there is still land nearby that they could use to build a new structure.

This would have its own difficulties. And the clubs would have to buy the land for the project from the stadium. Today they are currently only renting the San Siro from the city.

And that would not come cheap. Reportedly, the city’s revenue agency has evaluated the land to be worth around 200 million.

So for now, the city and Mayor Sala are awaiting the response from the clubs.

The Mayor began, “Let’s leave the matter of the revenue agency’s assessment aside for a moment.”

“The ball is currently in the court of the clubs,” Sala made clear.

“If the team are to give us a statement of interest, then everything can be expedited and clarified.”

“I believe that they will make their decision in the next few days,” Sala said.
