Lautaro Martinez finally broke his San Siro hoodoo on Sunday, but Inter Milan continue to stutter in front of goal this season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, this season’s conversion rate represents a significant markdown on Inter’s free-scoring form last year.

Inter were firing on all cylinders en route to their 20th Scudetto in 2023/24.

Simone Inzaghi’s men topped the scoring charts in Serie A with 89 goals.

Indeed, Inter’s impressive haul trumped second-placed AC Milan’s 76 by a decent margin.

However, they’ve developed a nasty habit of squandering clear-cut chances this season.

They have wasted numerous goalscoring opportunities despite averaging 2.27 goals per league game this term.

That negative trend could hinder Inter’s lofty ambitions in the long run.

Alarming Stat Shows Inter Milan Wastefulness In Front of Goal But Lautaro Martinez Offers Silver Lining

Inter’s performance against Venezia last Sunday perhaps best illustrates this ominous pattern.

Despite taking on sub-par opposition, the Nerazzurri only scored once.

However, they had countless presentable scoring chances to put the game to bed sooner.

Indeed, Henrikh Mkhitaryan unfathomably spurned a glorious opportunity late in the first half.

Marcus Thuram had two on either side of halftime but couldn’t convert.

Therefore, a conversion rate has become a problem for Inter.

The numbers don’t lie. The percentages are going down.

Last season, Inter boasted a decent 50% rate in clear-cut chances.

However, the figures have plummeted in 2024/25, with the Nerazzurri converting only 30% of their openings.

On a more positive note, Lautaro Martinez scored a match-winner against Venezia.

It was his first goal at San Siro this season.

Martinez’s five previous Serie A strikes came on the road.

With their captain breaking his home jinx, Inter will take on Arsenal in high spirits on Wednesday.

Inzaghi’s side will lock horns with the Gunners in their home setting, looking to uphold their near-faultless European record.

Except for a 0-0 draw at Manchester City, Inter have won their two remaining UEFA Champions League games this term.
