Matteo Darmian could switch to centre-back for Inter Milan in tomorrow’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 34-year-old could get the nod over Yann Bisseck in Benjamin Pavard’s absence.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to do without defender Benjamin Pavard for the next few weeks.

The former Bayern Munich defender will be out with a thigh strain.

And there are a couple of players who would be fairly natural positional replacements for Pavard.

One would be Yann Bisseck. The German has played on the right of Inter’s back three on numerous occasions.

Therefore, it is virtually inevitable that Bisseck will play there at some stage.

Matteo Darmian Could Move To Centre-Back For Inter Vs Fiorentina

But veteran former Manchester United and Parma defender Matteo Darmian can also play on the left of the back three.

Darmian’s versatility has been a major asset for Inter and Inzaghi.

The Italian international has started matches at both right- and left-wingback this season.

And Darmian has also proven more than capable of starting on the right of the back three.

According to the Corriere, that could be where Darmian starts tomorrow against Fiorentina.

In that case, it would be Denzel Dumfries who starts on the right flank for the Serie A clash.
