Inter Milan are ready to dramatically rethink their strategy in the transfer market starting with next summer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri want to sign younger players – but not just prospects for the future.

Last summer was Inter’s first transfer window under the ownership Oaktree Capita.

And it was something of a transitional summer for the Nerazzurri.

On the one hand, Inter signed two players they’d already agreed deals for before Oaktree’s arrival. Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi both arrived on free transfers.

Those were emblematic of the kinds of signings Inter have been building the squad around for a few years now. Experienced players signed for little or no transfer fee.

On the other hand, Oaktree made clear that they want to focus their project at Inter more on younger players.

Therefore, defender Tomas Palacios and goalkeeper Josep Martinez also arrived.

Inter Milan Set For Change In Transfer Strategy

So far, neither Zielinski nor Taremi have had quite the impact that earlier free transfer signings like Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Marcus Thuram have.

And on the other hand, the younger signings have yet to pay off.

Tomas Palacios went out on loan to Monza for the second half of the season. And Josep Martinez has made just one appearance this campaign, in the Coppa Italia.

These younger signings could eventually make a big impact. But they’ve hardly improved the squad in the short or medium term.

Therefore, next summer Inter will still target younger players to lower the squad’s average age. But not players who are just prospects for the future.

Petar Sucic is a good example of this kind of signing.

The Croat is young enough to revitalize the midfield. But at the same time, Inter believe that he can make an impact right away.
