Simone Inzaghi said that he “did what was needed” with his substitutions in today’s Serie A loss to Juventus by Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri coach reacted to the match in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews.
Simone Inzaghi used all five substitutions available against Juventus this evening. All five changes came in the second half.
While the removal of Mehdi Taremi for Marcus Thuram didn’t come as too much of a surprise, Inzaghi did raise some eyebrows with the other two of his first slate of substitutions.
Both Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco came off. Carlos Augusto and Nicola Zalewski replaced them.
Then with Inter chasing the game in the second half, Inzaghi hooked midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Replacing them were Piotr Zielinski, a midfielder, and Joaquin Correa, a forward.
Simone Inzaghi: “I Did What I Needed To Do” With Subs In Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan Loss
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi commented that “I made the changes that I needed to.”
“Because in the first quarter of an hour of the second half, I saw that the team was suffering. And we knew that Juventus would come at us with even more intensity.”

“The substitutes came on and did well,” Inzaghi said. “Regardless of who came on or went off.”
“We had seemed to have gotten the match under control,” added the Inter coach. “But then the goal came.”
“We saw how it came about. We had to do better in that individual moment, and help each other more.”
Meanwhile, Inzaghi insisted that “On a physical level the team was very good this evening.”
“We played a determined, organized match.”
“But we should have been more determined with what we created,” added the Inter coach. “Football doesn’t forgive you.”
It’s clear that the bench can’t be relied upon. Especially extra spark in the attack.
Oaktree need to invest if they want to sell inter for high price..
Our January transfer is abysmal compared to Juve & Milan..
Guys stop with this nonsense that Oaktree needs to invest… We have a new GK on the bench, there is also the possibility of Stankovic if doesn’t work out… Then in defence we already invested in Bisteck and Palacios.. Dumfries and Dimarco are good and proper age… In midfield we have our players Barella, Hakan and Zielinski… We need to loan Asslani and bring another one, sell Fratessi in order to buy Nico Paz.. In attack we have our main players Lautaro and Thuram, let’s see what we gonna do with Taremi because Arnautovic and Correa are definitely going. So min 1 new striker is coming
Oaktree should sell Inter and go away they can’t help us and also we don’t have luck with them, ever since they came we are failing to win big matches clear example is the supa Copa final against Milan.
Another huge mistake by Inzaghi. He never learns from his past substitution mistakes. Why he did not give a chance to Frattesi? Does he have a personal problem with the player? Frattesi can do even well compared to Zielinski, Zalewski, and even Mkhitarian. It is not a game against Venezia or Monza. It was a derby d’Italia! Then Inzaghi brought Augusto, Zalewski, Zielinski, and Correa? What a joke and shame!!! He is just losing a great opportunity to win scudetto, and throwing it to Napoli, the team in a more challenging situation than Inter!!! Antonio Conte is a much more strategic, smart, and superb coach than Inzaghi.
Has always relied on the squad built by Marotta.
That squad is ageing and showing its fatigue after a perfect storm last year.
But the year before this same guy lost 12 league games.
He has no idea after putting names on a team sheet, he’s got no plan B.
Today he changed formation but the players clearly had no idea and they hadn’t worked on it.
Inzaghi relies on individual brilliance for wins.
Shows on days when Lautaro doesn’t score and Hakan is off the boil we look lost. And teams have worked out they can catch our slow old guys on the break.
It’s no coincidence they are all buying young fast players.
with all due respect i dont think you hear yourself…. what plan b are you talking about? he is playing with a plan b but plan b individuals aren’t good enough.
what did we bring him during January transfer market? what did the others buy?
you just named half of our starting xl not performing and then blamed the coach for that.
we are lucky he didn’t ditch us when they told him to cope with his existing ingredients, others would have ranted on the media.
I wish he ditched us then. He has no clue what he’s doing and relies on the same subs at the same time; same style of play with no fresh ideas. Even with a fresh new set of players we wouldn’t perform any better. We’re always linked to players with similar characteristics in this squad. We need a coach that is able to revolutionize a game while his players are on the field and Inzaghi is just not that.
Inzaghi should backup as a coach always you have to learn and be dynamic he didn’t learn anything from the Supa Copa final.
