Refereeing expert Graziano Cesari feels that Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez should’ve received yellow cards for Inter Milan against Genoa.

Cesari spoke on Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He also argued that Genoa midfielder Fabio Miretti could have seen red for a challenge on Alessandro Bastoni.

Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Genoa over the weekend was hardly an ill-tempered or controversy-laden match.

However, there were still a couple of notable moments.

Perhaps the most significant concerned Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian knew going into the match that he was one booking away from suspension. Therefore, had he received a yellow card, he would have had to sit out next weekend’s top-of-the-table clash with Napoli.

But Mkhitaryan took a big risk in the second half against Napoli.

That is not all, however.

Italian refereeing expert Graziano Cesari noted that “Mkhitaryan will be available against Napoli because he wasn’t booked.

“But this was missing from Piccinini,” he said, referring to referee Marco Piccinini.

“It clearly should’ve been a yellow for the foul on Miretti. Because he was stopping a dangerous counterattack.”

“It is an automatic yellow in these situations,” Cesari argued.

Meanwhile, Cesari also argued that Inter captain Lautaro Martinez should have went into the book for his goal celebration.

“Lautaro cannot climb over the fence to celebrate. On an international pitch that would lead to a yellow.”

“Many rules are no longer observed,” Cesari commented. “But they still exist.”

“For example, leaving the technical area, as Inzaghi did numerous times, can lead to a yellow.”

Lastly, Cesari noted that “Miretti took a big risk for the tackle on Bastoni that he got booked for.”:

“He takes the ball, but his knees clattered into Bastoni’s calf.”

Cesari called the former Juventus midfielder’s tackle “a very dangerous challenge, clearly late.”

“Fortunately, he doesn’t catch Bastoni’s foot with his right leg. But it’s a situation where there’s room for interpretation.”
