Beppe Marotta and Simone Inzaghi have identified referees as the main culprits for ruining Inter Milan this season.
Per La Repubblica via FCInterNews, they hold match officials accountable for Nerazzurri’s faltering Serie A title defense.
To be honest, that’s not far from the truth.
You don’t need to look beyond Sunday’s game against Lazio to get a partial image of the injustice done to Inter this term.
Daniele Chiffi underperformed in the most crucial games of all.
Indeed, his controversial decisions, supported by VAR, landed a knockout punch on Inter’s Scudetto hopes.
However, there’s a much more ominous pattern.
Beppe Marotta & Simone Inzaghi Believe Referees & VAR Ruined Inter Milan Season in Serie A

Let’s not forget that Inter lost the Supercoppa Italiana final largely thanks to Simone Sozza’s mistakes.
Furthermore, referees have often ruled against Inter’s favor in Serie A.
Therefore, frustration is understandable.
Simone Inzaghi lost his nerve against Lazio and will, as a result, serve a touchline ban against Como.
Meanwhile, Marotta shares the same view as the Nerazzurri manager.
Indeed, he blames VAR for Inter’s rough patch in 2025, and no one could argue he’s not right.
The refs have been terrible across the board not just for us.
We have no-one to blame but ourselves.
That three week period around the Bologna/ Milan losses was just awful and showed the depth we have just isn’t up to it.
I need to put in a few words regarding officiating in Italy vs. outside the Italy. When Inter for example plays in CL or Europa, the calls mostly helps Inter or at least is even, but inside the domestic league or CI it’s exactly the opposite. Inter vs. Lazio game was a good example of it. Basically the referees in charge of VAR decided the game, both goals to me were beyond questionable, t
Lazio’s first goal was offside to most audience, but somehow VAR decided to use some bogus technology they use only in Italy which really doesn’t show when the ball was served, it just show a clip of some animated figuriens being offside, who knows when they show that is before the ball was served or after, it is so vague and probably can be tempered with manually by the VAR refs. I think if Napoli was leading Parma, at least one of the Lazio goals would’ve not been allowed. But the VAR person knew at 87 mins Napoli is still tie with Parma, so only option was to make sure Inter does not get all three points that late in the game, and only way to stop Inter from winning the game to leapfrog Napoli was to give Lazio a controversial PK with only 3 mins left on the clock. Basically the real score is not Inter 2 – 2 Lazio, but Inter 2 – 2 VAR..
Calciopoli is still here.
