Sportitalia journalist Michele Criscitiello provided an update on the summer dispute between Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio.
According to Criscitello via FCInter1908, Ausilio was on the verge of luring Roberto De Zerbi to San Siro.
Indeed, the Inter Milan sporting director had reportedly wrapped up a deal with the Olympique Marseille manager.
With Simone Inzaghi on his way to Al-Hilal, the Nerazzurri had to act in a hurry.
Time was a critical factor, with the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon.
Therefore, they were scouring the market for an immediate replacement.
Como’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, had initially emerged as the club’s top candidate to fill the void.
However, the Spaniard turned down Inter’s approach out of loyalty to the Lariani.
Meanwhile, last season’s Serie A runners-up quickly turned to Cristian Chivu.
The Romanian took charge roughly two weeks before Inter’s trip to the United States.
Yet, the team faltered at the tournament, failing to advance from the opening knockout stage.

Inter’s decision to appoint Chivu remains a polarizing subject.
Indeed, the 44-year-old lacks experience in senior management, yet it didn’t stop Marotta from handing him the reins.
On the other hand, Ausilio had other ideas.
He wanted De Zerbi to take Inzaghi’s place and made concrete steps to sign the former Sassuolo coach.
However, Marotta didn’t agree.
“If you aren’t aware that Inzaghi already has an agreement with the Saudi’s, it means that you’re distracted,” Criscitello stated.
“If you go to London to get Fabregas and he stays at Como, it means that you don’t have any appeal.
“And if you take Chivu, it means you’re unprepared and that you declined the alternatives that Ausilio proposed.
“Piero wraps up De Zerbi, Marotta chooses Chivu. He who causes his own misery has no one to blame but himself.”
obviously De Zerbi plays 4-2–3-1. Inter would not have bought the players he wanted.Chivu is an easier scape goat(no senior coaching experience)etc.All part of the plan.
Please I am interested fan in Kumasi, Ghana we need quality coach who can take us to the top not Christian Chivu.
It is time for Marotta to leave. His decisions is costing the club’s success in competitions. I believe Chivu should still be given some time but if he fails to change his system, he might be on the risk of losing his position as the head coach
That Marotta man with a big head will never agree. if Chivu is sacked Marotta should follow him.
Marotta is the reason Inter is in this mess. He has to move on inorder for the club to grow. He have made disastrous decisions for the past few seasons and is in decline. Ausilio should take charge now that’s why Inzaghi left. He was right to leave.
Chivu so far underperformed, problem is he didn’t change anything, make worse substitutes than Inzaghi did. De Zerbi would have been better choice. We had more solid choices amongst coaches who were out of contract, who won some trophies and managed bigger clubs than Parma: Marco Rose, Philippe Clement, Roger Schmidt, hell i would even prefer Mancini. This job was too fast for Chivu, we saw how Motta’s spell ended at Juve, higher expectation, pressure…
