Paolo Ziliani has urged Serie A title contenders Inter Milan to shore up their defensive woes in order to increase their Scudetto chances.
In his latest column via Golssip.it, Ziliani delivered a brutal verdict on Inter’s growing defensive issues.
Despite boasting the division’s best scoring record, Cristian Chivu’s men have struggled defensively.
Indeed, the San Siro giants have already netted a whopping 24 goals, averaging 2.4 goals per game.
Therefore, Inter Milan have scored at least eight more goals than any other Serie A team after the opening ten rounds.
However, the Nerazzurri have conceded an alarming 12 goals – at least four more than any other current top-four side.
For comparison, Napoli have conceded eight, while Roma only capitulated five times in their first ten league outings under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Furthermore, Inter have failed to keep a clean sheet in only four Serie A fixtures this term.
Paolo Ziliani Highlights Inter Milan Defensive Woes Amid Tight Scudetto Race

“In the last 19 Serie A seasons, limiting the analysis to the post-Calciopoli era, the teams that have won the Scudetto while also boasting the best defense in the league have been 14.
“That means it happens more than two times out of three.
“Why am I saying this? Because among those title-winning sides are Mourinho’s Inter (2008–09 and 2009–10), Conte’s Inter (2020–21), and Inzaghi’s Inter (2023–24), all of which lifted the title with the best defensive record in the league.
“Therefore, the current Inter side’s numbers – 12 goals conceded in 10 matches -should sound like a clear warning bell,” Ziliani wrote in his analysis.
Despite posting their tenth league win of the season against Hellas Verona, Inter failed to keep a clean sheet yesterday.
On the bright side, Piotr Zielinski found his long-awaited breakthrough with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.

we are lucky that napoli being cursed this season, their key players are always off with long term injuries. only threat from bilan and maybe rube after some time.
you mean they have been lucky winning scudetto by only playing once a week last season while we were juggling three major competitions with injuries and fatigue. karma is a bitch my friend.
we all should hope conte will stay at napoli. you know he’s only capable to focus on 1 tournament and his training intensity is very high which could cause disasters to his own team. last year with only 1 tournament to play, they won by 1 more point than us that played in all major competitions every 3 days all year long. I never consider him as very good coach, BUT he could mess others plan if he has big sources and fortunately Napoli don’t have those.
Only Chivu and the players don’t know that. The defense is what caused the breakdown last season. Is it me or Esposito only dives to the ground more often than not?
I was thinking the same thing… he is flopping too much
Its just you
its not
Esposito is still to prove himself, not quite clear at this moment if he’s Inter worthy. He’ll have a good chance tomorrow against Kairat to show what he’s made of…
