Speaking to Sky Sport immediately after Inter’s 2-1 home loss to Sassuolo this afternoon, Stefano Vecchi insisted that the players gave it their all.
“This is a year where everything goes wrong, it has also been seen today. In the week and during the game, I saw a team that wanted to finish with dignity but not all went for the best,” Vecchi said.
“We tried to do our best, clearly Inter should not lose a game like this. The boys gave it their all, I have seen them very disappointed. We have to believe that we can qualify for the Europa League as long as it is mathematically possible.”
Vecchi then explained that he did not believe the protest from the Curva Nord had an impact on his players and also praised Gabigol for his cameo appearance.
“I do not think the boys were afraid after the protest, they played and they played and they know how they are doing. I also think it’s strange that Gabigol gets applauded before he comes on the pitch, maybe he should be rewarded with that after a few games.
“Today he has come in and had a positive impact but so did Eder.”
Finally the interim coach sympathised with captain Mauro Icardi, saying that no-one suffers as much as himin the team.
“Icardi is the most impressive in these colours and most of all he suffers from this situation. This tough moment is a test for him, but it could serve him well.”
