After Luciano Spalletti’s press conference in Brunico, the microphone was turned to the first player signing of the season, Daniele Padelli, who signed for the Nerazzurri at the end of his contract with Torino:
What is like to be at Inter?
“It’s a dream come true, even as a child I use to ‘replace’ my face to that of Pagliuca – I’ll show you and make you understand what it means for me to be here.”
When did you realized that you had an opportunity at Inter? You had other starting positions
“In football, no one has a starting position. I had other offers but for a while we spoke with Inter, and for me it was an honor to receive such a proposal. For me it is a unique opportunity.”
Your first impressions on Spalletti?
“The charge that he has inside, it is clear that it will bring Inter to high standards. He will do everything to get us up and we’ll have to put a lot more for him.”
At 32, will you be a goalkeeper who makes quick judgments?
“I am here to give my best ever. There will be no major problems, as well as being a job is my passion. The goalkeeper is a particular role, you must always work out well.”
What has impressed you most about Spalletti? The atmosphere?
“He’s a coach who’s well prepared. He aims to achieve higher, he’s trying to inculcate that in the team. The important thing is that we’re all rowing in the same direction.”
When you left Torino
“I left Torino very happy with the environment, it has been an important part of my life. It was an exciting transfer.”
What do you think of Handanovic?
“Samir is a serious guy, one with his head on his shoulders that works hard and gives great results. One of the top in Europe and for me it is a pleasure to work with him and to learn as much as I did in Udinese.”
You’re one of the few Italians, have you thought of that?
“I do not think big it makes a big difference, Italians or foreigners need to understand right away Inter and the Italian championship. For Italians it’s more easy, but I found so many clever foreign players and we can do well.”
You have received offers from teams that offered you a starting position.
“I’ve had some requests, no one guarantees you the place – especially for a goalkeeper. Inter was an opportunity too important and I do not have the heart to refuse.”
From the outside what ideas do you get about Inter’s struggles?
“In recent seasons there was something wrong, Inter does not deserve these positions. But from the outside it is difficult to judge. I could see performance drops, I do not know, but I’m very sorry.”
You met someone from Suning? Who impressed you?
“Yes, I met the president’s son, he was with us. Some guys, plus Handanovic always amazes me more, I think there are very valid. Those Primavera have thrived and can help us out.”
Spalletti said that you have to give back the Champions League, you feel ready?
“We must be prepared, to work to bring the Inter to the top.”
What differences have you found in terms of training between Torino and Inter?
“I can only speak well of the coach I had in Turin, he has helped me so much. Here I found Bonaiuti, that takes care of every detail, even the foot positioning. All things that make you improve, even a 2cm thrust. There will be time and opportunity to improve.”
