Daniele Padelli, Borja Valero, Milan Skriniar and now Matias Vecino: these are the four important purchases that Inter have completed in the transfer market. Calcio & Finanza (Football & Finance), evaluated Inter’s mercato so far in terms of costs:
“To date Vecino is the most expensive purchase: with the 24M Euros that will be paid to Fiorentina in installments and annual salary of 2.5 million, the Uruguayan’s transfer will have an impact of around 10.6 million including gross salary. Following him, Milan Skriniar, Inter paid 23M Euros to Sampdoria, which will have an impact of about 8.3 million. Finally, Borja Valero, who will cost Inter 5.5 million and lastly Padelli, who came in on a free transfer, sums up to zero, his transfer will only impact the salary budget.”
These investments aren’t affected by the sales of which the majority were completed before June 30th in order to fall within the parameters of FFP. Right now the only players that have left that need to be registered in the balance sheet are the departures of Andreolli, Carrizo & Palacio whose contracts have all expired and where Inter will save €7.5 million gross per year on their wages

thats actually very good business so far, now if we do sell someone like nagatomo and santon and manage to get someone like aurier and Dalbert i think well have a real dangerous squad (not that we already dont)
So we are working very well at staying inside the parameters of the FFP as the article points out because we need another year (2018) to break even at. We have spend 24-25 mil so far and if Jojo leaves, Murillo, Ranno, Santon then we’re good. Actually we only need Jojo (13mil plus high salaries) and Murillo (15) to leave and we’re good.
If we manage to send Kondogbia to Valencia in exchange for this Portuguese right back they have, and even sell Broso, Medel, Ranno we have the money needed for Dalbert and even Lemos….
Ausilio and Sabatini are working brilliantly in balancing the books AND brining in quality players (Skriniar has beeen superb and Velero is our Pirlo, now I hope Vecino will be our Pogba/Naingolan).
I cannot see us sign star player while Milan is ending with 11th player, Diego Kosta. So far so shit.
Milan are simply throwing money at big names, they will deeply lack chemistry with the types of players they have bought. I agree that Inter have done excellent with their books, and have still made greatly improved the squad. All i ask for now is a left back and a Nagatomo sale!
and you think u will get that…
that was right from the beginning of mercato the most important issue and its still not solved though a cheap good solution was there!
before our defense is not on top this mercato is just like the recent ones…. lots of hope nothing really settled and again again another year zero.
sorry but u guys were already here all the last years mercatos. just the nick names change…
wow they settled the books!!! guess we could have made some more money with the right managers and get at least one star warrior to take this team over and kick asses…
do you guys actually know how many mercatos our management is already talking bout balancing books???
wow they finally made it in 2017.. great success!!! lets all be satisfied with another year of hope and in the end fuck up pffff
We are not in a position to sign expensive high profile players. You go out and sign those types of players when you’re in CL or keep ending 2nd/3rd in your league and need to get to the next lvl… Just look at what Juve has done. They only recently splurged on big name players because they needed to go further in CL and/or win it.
Also under the current transfer environment, with these ridiculous transfer fees, we cannot afford to compete for the big named established players and it’s not financially sound to go after them. It’s better we invest and create the next super stars instead of trying to buy the established stars.
As for Milan, it’s practically known they are spending big before FFP rules start applying to them. So stop comparing their situation to ours.
Milan have signed bonucchi – a true star player, but the rest is just average players. Besides we don’t need star players, we need players that are ready to play for Inter, to sheet blood sweat and tears for the club and who doesn’t put himself above the club. Players that will fit into the way Spalletti wants us to play, and that’s why Vecino and Valero are 2 great signings.
Paying 50 mil for a 30 year old Vidal is simply stupid and not something Sabatini is going to do – I think. Still, I hope we can get Di María in in stead of Candreva as he would be a quality upgrade on the right hand side…
i dont get our transfers… trying to get rid of murillo for fucking 13mln?? jovetic for 13mln, banega for 9mln, while keeping dumbo, medel, rano..wtf? they all are shit and have higher salaries than murillo, get rid of them, biabia is still here, so is santon who is always injured , just terminate his contract and let him retire! broso, why are u still here?? candreva, conte is looking for you! go now!! nothing new regarding their departures and they ll continue be here thanks to grande auselio and his renewal policy!!
No one wants Dumbo, King Nagashit even for free.
Relax; by the end of August Ranno, Biabiany, Santon, Jojo, Murillo (who never will be anything special), Medel, even Broso, Nagatomo will all leave. I’d sell Candreva but the club keeps saying we haven’t received any offers from anyone – it’s simply the media that’s bullshiting (Spalletti stated it two days ago)
Balancing the books is the worst way to go, though. City and PSG didn’t become where they are balancing the books. Milan are obviously violating FFP and UEFA aren’t doing jack. When cheaters are using hands to play football, we can’t just play with our feet and expect to win.
hey john, tell me how many time city and psg won the champions league ? after all these money they’re spending im pretty sure that they’re already winning back to back champions league
never… eh… not even reaching the semi ? what ? how ? i’m pretty sure spending so much shit onto player mean instant glory to the club doesn’t it ?
btw take a look at madrid… what they’re doing ? spending so much too ? yes they are, but did you realise that they’re selling their stars too ? in the name of balancing the book, avoiding ffp also getting so much stars mean trying to mixing many stars ego and ended up causing problem
spending so much doesn’t mean instant results…. i mean how many shit man u spendig after all these years after fergie gone… did they get what fergie does in the mean time ?
Winning CL is a tall order for any club. City has become a regular title contender in PL, and PSG have won 4 straight titles. Neither of those would have happened if they balanced their books in accordance with FFP.
But it’s not really fair to compare Inter to them, as both are practically owned by investment groups representing countries/cities. And those investments companies are owned by ministers and members of the royal families of UAE and Qatar. Therefore it’s quite simpel for them to invest and cover the teams costs and transfer, with the help of sponsorship deals, tours in their home countries (where the teams are payed hefty sums directly in the early years of the ownership, that only teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and United normally gets and probably even a bit higher). Inter gets 13 million from Pirelli as their shirt sponshorship, which can reach 18 or if it was 20 million with bonuses, if some targets are met. The owners of PSG got a sponsorship deal for 200 (!) million euros yearly, from Qatar Tourism Authority. The sponsorship City has with Etihad Airlines is worth 39 million euros a year. Both teams were under investigation by UEFA, and I believe that they got huge fines (a couple of tens of million euros). I can’t see Suning paying that much in sponsorship deals, when they bought Inter for 300 million euros.
It’s better to try to balance the books, have a good management in place (the structure itself), have a good coach in place, improving the squad more efficiently, then we can repeat what Bayern have achieved. A really good financial situation, good performances in the CL and national league. We can continue or work to have a good youth intake from the primavera to the seniors where they are integrated to become starting players or for squad rotation. Perhaps later loaned out and sold for a couple of millions just like Real Madrid did with Morata, Callejon and such.
PSG and City were also a bit lucky with the prize money and tv-deals they have gotten after purchasing the teams. Sunderland who came last in the PL last season, got the least amount of money from the tv-deal in league. They still got 99.9 million GBP, Inter for a comparison got 94.8 million Euros (84.816 million GBP). PSG did for a couple of years go furthest of french teams in the CL, as Lyon and other teams started to adapt to the FFP-rules. Therefore they got huge sums in prize money and from tv-deal from the CL distributed to the french teams. Just as Juventus have gotten for a couple of years when Milan and Inter missed the CL, and teams such as Napoli and Roma did not do that well due to being 3rd or 4th seeded in the lottery for the group stages and they had suddenly qualified as the Milan teams were under performing in the league.
“The owners of PSG got a sponsorship deal for 200 (!) million euros yearly, from Qatar Tourism Authority. The sponsorship City has with Etihad Airlines is worth 39 million euros a year.”
Inter also have $ through Suning now; why can’t we say “Inter got a sponsorship deal for 200 million euros yearly, from Suning Tourism Authority (or whatever bullshit organization we come up with)”?
I agree that it’d be best to balance the books and become CL regulars. However, we are the proof that that path is rather difficult if not impossible.
Well Uefa did give both team a 60 million euro fine, which they can reduce if some agreed goals are met. Read this article: https://www.ft.com/content/f4288fe6-dd3b-11e3-8546-00144feabdc0
You’re only solidifying my argument. Inter should not worry about toothless FFP. Balancing the books, as great as it sounds, gets us nowhere.
the difference is that Suning are businessmen who want to see a return on their investment while the owners of City or PSG dont really care about that. they got their own stadium, constant CL participants and made some shady sponsorship deals so they are pretty much set to not worry about FFP. if we were to become CL-regulars and have a stadium things would drastically change for the better
I agree that stadium must be built. That’s definitely the first step, and Thohir seems to fail to understand this, as he wants to fix up Giuseppe Meazza instead, which doesn’t do Inter any good.
yes, that should have been the 1st step… now we must focus on reaching 4th place at all cost, getting to the knockout stages in CL could easily bring 50-60m euros/season, that would be a huge economic boost already.
But those sums of fines are still quite high, it’s not guaranteed that breaching the FFP-rules and paying those type of fines (even if reduced) would take us to CL and reach profitability. I believe that Suning are trying to make the team have a sane financial situation, avoiding breaching FFP-rules and having UEFA limiting and dictating how the club is managed. Which is what they have done since the CL-title and even more so when Tohir came. I believe that it’s then easier to steer in the direction that it’s needed, even when getting new partners from sponsorships, building a new stadium and other subject that UEFA might have objections to. You wont’t be seeing UEFA complaining over the 52,5 million euro deal a year Chevrolet are paying Manchester United. Because when a team have good finances and is not under investigation by UEFA, they are not trying to turn every rock upside down to control if any actions are made to evade FFP-regulations.
Sure it’s not guaranteed, but going to CL is easier than ever in 2018-2019. This season, the 3rd place in Serie A has to go through qualifiers for CL and 4th place can’t participate in CL. Next season, 4th place in Serie A is automatically qualified for CL group stage.
That’s why we must spend spend and spend this summer and qualify for CL, and that’s what Milan are doing.
Brilliant… Thumbs up bro.
I guess you don’t know how FFP works. Milan can’t be punished before later down the line due to FFP looking at the books three years back and they have been out of europe.
I know exactly how FFP works, and as I said, balancing books isn’t how City and PSG got big. Inter will go nowhere complying with FFP is the point, not whether Milan get punished.
U see, when City, Chelsea and Psg were bought by foreign owners FFP was not in place. So they were free to invest huge amount of money on transfers. And now if u see, now the annual revenue of these clubs are nearly double than that of Inter. The authenticity of the revenues of City and Psg is not clear but on paper they hv huge revenue. AC milan has been recently overtaken so they hv 3 yrs to balance their books. And their balancing depends heavily on their regular participation in Champions League. In fact if I m not wrong their revenue growth plan presented by their management has even predicted that they will win the league within these 3 yrs.
FFP was already in place, mate. They broke all the rules. They got fined. They couldn’t register players. They didn’t give a shit.
For example, the 2013-2014 season:
France Paris Saint-Germain[204] – €60 million fine, €40 million suspended. Squad reduced to 21 players. Transfer spending restrictions and two-year squad salary restrictions
England Manchester City[205] – €60 million fine, €40 million suspended. Squad reduced to 21 players. Transfer spending restrictions and two-year squad salary restrictions.
So many wrongs in what you write: Chelsea and PSG are staying inside the FFP parameters just like anyone else in Europe has to do, or at least I think so. PSG were actually punished two years ago because they didn’t cope with the FFP and had to pay a very high amount of money so I’m sure they have learned from their mistakes.
When Neymar arrives 4-5 strong players will leave them in order to generate money for the Naymar transfer and to stay in side the FFP. Krychowiak, Lucas, Aurier Di María and more are some of the players that could be sold off.
Besides both clubs generate so much more money on merchandise, tv-money, sponsorship deals etc than us…
Milan hasn’t made a plan with Uefa yet and therefor are not with a financial schedule they need to stay in side of, but that schedule will be made this autumn and then they too will need to cut back the next 4 years just like us – that’s why they are spending now before the FFP strikes them too hard.
We have just balanced the books and will need to do it again next summer for the financial year (2018-2019), and then we should be “free” whereas Milan’s 4 years of cut backs are just about to start.
Nope. Of course PSG and City comply with FFP today because they became “big.” I am talking about their past FFP violations.
Balancing the books sounds good on paper but we are the proof that balancing the books won’t go anywhere.
PSG were big two years ago as well but still got fined big time, as for Inter being a victim of the FFP I don’t buy it: we are a victim of our own stupidity and overspending (read; Moratti’s handleling of the club in his 20 years ownership period). He left a club in financial ruins and Thohir has actually done a great job getting the club back on track – but we are a victim of stupidity when hiring coaches and buying players (because we have spend a lot of money even though being under the FFP regulations).
Now, we have one of the best “squad-builders” in the world:Sabatini. He knows how to buy cheap and build a great group and Spalletti is the right man to work with young talented players too. We already have a very strong team and only need a couple of defensive reinforcements and we’re ready to go for top four.
Not sure what you’re reading. I’m not saying Inter are the only victim of FFP. What I’m saying is PSG & CIty didn’t give a crap about fines and sanctions, kept on violating FFP in order to collect world-class players and became big.
As you say, it’d be great if Inter can balance the books and still qualify for CL. It’ll be a tough road ahead, though.
Agree my friend! Inter is the good boy who always go by the rules…
Good guys finish last.
Guess what, Qatar paid 288M to Neymar as the world cup ambassador. Neymar used this money to release himself from Barcelona (i.e. going unattached) before joining PSG on “free transfer.”
This scheme allows PSG to not have to report the 288M as their expenditure, bypassing FFP completely.
Wake up, FFP is useless when UEFA can’t catch the world’s most expensive transfer. When other clubs find loopholes left and right, abiding by the rules only gets us far far behind.
