Former Inter manager Stefano Pioli spoke to Corriere dello Sport ahead of Sunday’s season opener between Inter and his new club Fiorentina: “[It’s] The first game of a new cycle for me, we are working toward it with great care. We are certainly facing a team whose owners have had an intelligent mercato: there was a need for a central defender and they got one, as well as a left-back. Then there were reinforcements in the middle of the field. Borja Valero? I am used to dividing players into two categories: smart and less intelligent. Borja Valero belongs to the first group. I do not know where he will be deployed, but I know what he is able to achieve performance wise.”

Lol, could Mr. Pioli bother to explain Yuto Fagatomo belongs to which category? Smart or Einstein level?
Pioli wouldnt know a smart player if one fell on top of him.
Pioli did well at Inter and he should get a lot of respect for his 12 games unbeaten.
That said I like Spalletti a lot!
Hopeffully Spalletti knows that he´s facing a coach who knows our squad inside out and knows who to hurt us + he also knows Vecino and Valero and maybe how to stop them…
What about the 7-game winless streak right after that? I don’t think he did that well, or else he would have remained coaching this season.
The team gave up after we were out of the champions league spots. Last season was a sham as soon an Macio quit. Pioli at least gave us some excitement after the De Boer disaster. He is the only reason we didnt end up in the bottom half
Not sure if I agree that the team gave up. The winless streak started after thrashing Atalanta 7-1. We lost a couple of games, but we could have bounced right back instead of giving up then.
After the firing of FDB, any coach would have moved Inter higher; it doesn’t mean Pioli was doing a fine job.
Selective reasoning indeed.
The win streak had more to do with a rise in player morale and a new environment after FDB was finaly gone, as everyone was in the gutter mentally at that point. Piolis tactical ability is non-existent.
When it really mattered then Pioli was absolutely awful. Completely clueless in every big match.
Atleast beating Fiorentina this season will be easy with him as their coach.
