Joao Mario shared his delight about making his return to first-team action in the 3-0 win over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
“I prepared well and I am always trying to train to the maximum. I have been waiting for this opportunity but the most important thing is that we must always be ready. I am very happy to have played in this game,” the Portuguese said in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport.
“I have grown a lot, even in times of difficulty I have grown so much. I have spent many months out and I have become a different player and different person in that time.”
“I was looking to turn the whistles into applause instead and I am glad that the fans have given me this. Therefore I thank them. It is important for me to always be ready and I will continue to work hard.”
He concluded by admitting he is not bothered what position he gets played in.
“I can play as a central midfielder or trequartista, either is fine with me, it is important for me to have played.”
