Borja Valero expressed his disappointment about Inter’s elimination from the Champions League after failing to better Tottenham Hotspur’s result in their match at home to PSV Eindhoven.
“There is bitterness and disappointment, we had our qualification in our own hands but after going 1-0 down, we let ourselves get overcome by the frenzy, to the point where we lost the ball uselessly. We slowly got back in to the game but in the end we did not manage to qualify,” he told Sky Sport Italia post-match.
“We knew we had to win by force and sometimes this works against you, and today it was like that because we could not handle the match. We were aware of the fact that we had to score the second goal, as Tottenham could have scored at any moment.”
He concluded by reflecting on the different between the two teams at San Siro tonight.
“On a physical level, we can not fight against a team of PSV’s kind. We have to try to get forward and be dangerous with some crosses. Their goal was very heavy and in the end it cost us qualification.”
