Inter boss Luciano Spalletti received a surprise gift from club president Steven Zhang after returning from Thursday’s Europa League tie away to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Spalletti celebrated his 60th birthday on 7 March and was presented with a lavish birthday cake at Appiano Gentile, commissioned by Zhang from German pastry chef Ernst Knam.
Inter secured a goalless draw in Germany and will look to book their place in the competition’s quarter-finals next week, although they will be without the suspended Lautaro Martinez and Kwadwo Asamoah.
Spalletti will first take charge of Sunday’s match at home to SPAL, though, where Inter are obliged to win after last Friday’s surprise defeat to Cagliari.
Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan will all miss this weekend’s game through injury while Matias Vecino is suspended.
Keita Balde and Danilo D’Ambrosio are both available for selection but neither is 100% fit, while Kwadwo Asamoah may also be rested.
