Stefan de Vrij has taken to social media to congratulate former Netherlands national team teammate Robin van Persie on his retirement from professional football.

“Thanks for all the memories mate, it was an honour to play with you,” the centre back posted to his official Instagram as a caption to a photo of him and van Persie, who played his final game at the weekend, on international duty.
