Inter and AC Milan met the mayor of Milan yesterday to talk through plans for a new San Siro, Gazzetta dello Sport confirmed this morning.
The Nerazzurri were represented by their chief executive Alessandro Antonello, while Paolo Scaroni and Ivan Gazidis attended on behalf of the Rossoneri.
Giuseppe Sala described the meeting as ‘very cordial’, with an official planning application to be submitted to the city council on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“San Siro needs to stay alive until after the 2026 Winter Olympics,” Sala again told reporters yesterday.
“The clubs used this meeting to explain why they believe a new stadium is the right solution, though.
“The risk they foresee in renovating the current San Siro is that they would have to play there while construction work is taking place.”
Sala revealed the clubs intended to spend €600-700 million on building the new stadium, but then added the costs would double if they wanted to redo the surrounding area as well.
“We know what our rules are as a council and we will have to analyse whether this project is in line with them,” Sala added.
