Inter have a golden opportunity to make money off Gabriel Barbosa thanks to the forward’s blistering form in Brazil, Tuttosport suggested today.

‘Gabigol’ returned to his home country at the start of last year, having flopped hideously in his €30 million move from Santos to Inter.

The striker also failed to make an impact at Benfica in a short loan move, but he has since rediscovered his form in spells with Santos and Flamengo.

The 22-year-old has scored 45 goals in 82 league matches since January 2018, finishing as the Brasileirao’s top scorer last season with 18 strikes.

Gabigol is currently worth €15 million on Inter’s books after the Nerazzurri extended his contract through to 2022, reducing his amortisation cost by around €5 million.

His twelve-month loan deal with Flamengo will expire on 31 December and at that point his value will have dropped to €13 million, making easier for Inter to sell him for a profit.

Suning signed Gabigol after he helped Brazil win gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but now they would be happy just to avoid further embarrassment by selling him well.
