Antonio Conte warned there was little room for encouragement after Inter lost 1-0 against Manchester United today.

Mason Greenwood’s second-half strike condemned the Nerazzurri to defeat in their opening International Champions Cup match, amid sweltering conditions in Singapore.

Conte praised his side’s work-rate but admitted Inter had a lot of work still to do.

“The responses we’re getting are not positive,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“It’s important to see the lads so committed in a difficult period like this, when you have a lot of intense training sessions.

“We have a lot of room for improvement when we’re pressing and in possession, but it’s hard to put those things into practice after so few days working.

“We have an important base to work from, which is the spirit these guys showed. We have very limited time to prepare for the next match though, and at the moment we need to train as well as play games so we can improve.”

Conte tried playing Ivan Perisic at left wing-back in his 3-5-2 system but the Italian was not convinced by his performance.

“I don’t think Ivan is suited to the position where I want him to play,” he admitted.

“On the other hand I thought Dalbert played with great application.

“We knew we would be struggling in this match and that preseason in general would be difficult for various reasons. We shouldn’t forget how hot it was out there today, which influenced the high press we had prepared.

“There’s a lot of work to do and we’ll do it.”
