Stefano Sensi was delighted to score on his debut for Inter but warned his teammates they must improve on Monday’s performance against Lecce.
The midfielder found the net midway through the first half to help Antonio Conte’s side on their way to a convincing 4-0 win.
Sensi said the important thing was not to have disappointed the Nerazzurri’s numerous supporters at San Siro tonight.
“I’m obviously very happy for my goal and for my debut in front of our fans,” he told InterTV.
“I think we put in a great performance. We played with great intensity for the first 30 minutes and then we dropped our tempo before half-time.
“We must improve and we will get to work in the week to do precisely this. I’m happy for the team but we still have a long way to go.
“We need to work. If we all sacrifice something we’ll manage to do something extra.”
Sensi was seen frequently changing his position with Marcelo Brozovic during the match at San Siro, as the pair continued to improve the understanding they created in preseason.
“It’s something the coach is asking us for, although my characteristics mean I’m well suited to this type of work,” he added.
“I have a good understanding with Brozovic. Every so often we swap positions to keep the ball while our wing-backs advance.”
Inter’s next match will be away to Cagliari on Sunday and Sensi made it clear they would not have life easy at the Sardegna Arena.
“It’s a tough match because it’s absolutely not easy to play against Cagliari,” he concluded.
“They’re an aggressive team that cause you problems. We need to improve in terms of our intensity. We can’t afford to lose our concentration, not even for a few minutes.
“This will help us play a great match in Sardinia.”
