Antonio Conte has revealed the reasoning behind him accepting Inter’s proposal to become their new manager this Summer.

“I was convinced by the seriousness of the project and the owners, who are serious, strong and wants to do as well as it has in other fields. It is inevitable that it will take some time, let’s not forget that Inter have not won anything for nine years. A good journey has begun and everyone involved shares the same ideas,” he told UEFA.com.

“We want to make our fans proud, play football that excites them and with which they can identify. Setting goals is difficult, we’ll see what we can do along the way. The important thing is not to have regrets and to know that everyone gave 110%.”

He then spoke on his experiences in the Champions League both as a player and coach.

“I won it. I played four finals and lost three. I know how difficult it is to win and how painful it is to lose in the final. There are so many factors to consider but it is normal because we are talking about the most important competition.”

He then spoke on the upcoming match with Barcelona.

“It will be a fascinating challenge, one of those that give motivation and that push you to give your best. I don’t think they will even be happy to challenge Inter. We have started a journey and we want to complete it in the best possible way. Facing the big teams in the Champions League is the best way to grow.”

He concluded by discussing Inter’s start in the league.

“I am a person with my feet firmly planted on the ground. Starting well is good and all, but we are aware of the difficulties we may encounter down the line. We need to understand what needs to be done to achieve something important and make our fans happy.”
