Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has admitted to not being surprised in the slightest by how Romelu Lukaku has done since joining Inter this past Summer from Manchester United.
“He is a type of player who has always worked in Italian football. I remember the physicality of Aldo Serena, Ruud Gullit, Marco Van Basten and more recently Cristian Vieri and then Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It is no wonder he has scored all of these goals,” Bergomi remarked in an interview as he appeared on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia show Sky Calcio Club.
The 26-year-old Belgian international, who can count Everton and Chelsea among his former clubs, joined the Nerazzurri in a club record €65 million transfer deal and has since went on to score nine goals – all of which have come in Serie A action.
Lukaku’s goal scoring is made further impressive by the fact he has scored more than any newly transferred player in Europe’s top five leagues.
