Flamengo and Inter are very close to agreeing terms over the permanent transfer of Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa to the recent Copa Libertadores champions, according to a report in Brazilian media outlet UoL Esporte.
According to the report, the Flamengo directors insistance on buying 80% of the rights to the player from Inter for a fee around €16 million with the Nerazzurri retaining the remaining 20%, has been met positively by the Serie A outfit,
This means that in case Flamengo sell Gabigol in the future, Inter will receive 20% of any transfer fee paid for him, as opposed to a 20% sell-on fee clause where the Nerazzurri would only be guaranteed 20% above a certain sum.
However, according to the report, it is very unlikely that any deal could be concluded before the 31st of December, when Gabigol’s loan at Flamengo expires.
The Nerazzurri have yet not given up on the idea that a European club could swoop in for the top goalscorer of both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A.
However, as things stand today, the most probable outcome is that Gabigol signs permanently for Flamengo with Inter retaining 20% of rights to the player.
