Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has welcomed the idea of playoffs being carried out to determine what needs to be determined in Serie A.

Serie A is currently on hold until at least April 3 as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and a number of suggestions have been made when it comes to how games can be caught up upon or how the season can be finished in alternative ways with the idea of playoffs being one of them.

As per reports, there could be a playoff to decide the Serie A title, playoffs to decide the European places and also relegation.

Some have even suggested just cancelling the season altogether and not handing out the title to anybody but Altobelli believes this should not occur.

“The worst thing would be to not assign the title, I mean, the teams have played a lot of games and a lot of effort has been put into it,” he said in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“I hope, in one way or another, that the Scudetto will eventually go to someone. Today many are asking will the league end or when will it resume. These are questions that currently have no answers. Given the situation, I think playoffs are a good solution.”

Altobelli spent a total of 11 years on Inter’s books between 1977 and 1988. He made 465 appearances across all competitions in his time with the club and scored a total of 209 goals.
